PRESS RELEASE

Vivid Learning System Employees Get Involved in Community

April 16, 2009 In the summer of 2006, Chris and Zelene Fowler, had a son born with Down syndrome. After the birth of their son Henry, they immediately wanted to do something for others whose lives have been touched by Down syndrome. Aaron Jensen, an Account Executive with Vivid Learning Systems (OTC:VVDL), and his wife were contacted by Chris and Zelene about starting a non-profit organization that would help raise awareness and provide support for the Down syndrome community in the local area. That is how the Down Syndrome Association of the Mid-Columbia (DSAMC) was created.

The goals of the DSAMC are to support families that have been blessed with a child that has Down syndrome and provide community education and awareness. The main approach for raising awareness is the Mid-Columbia Buddy Walk, a one-mile walk around Howard Amon Park in Richland. The first Buddy Walk in 2007 raised $40,000 and had approximately 700 walkers. In 2008, the 2nd annual Buddy Walk raised $42,000 and grew to over 950 walkers.

“With the money we’ve raised, we’ve been able to build programs within the community such as a parent support group, a quarterly lecture series, a program thru local hospitals that provides information and resources for new parents with babies born with Down syndrome and special equipment such as a $5,000 treadmill/harness system for the Children’s Developmental Center. Starting this non-profit charity with my wife and our best friends has been the most rewarding project I have ever been part of and I feel so fortunate to be able to give back to the Mid-Columbia community.” Aaron Jensen, Account Executive, Vivid Learning Systems and Co-Founder of the Down Syndrome Association of the Mid-Columbia

About DSAMC
Chris and Zelene Fowler, together with Aaron and Heather Jensen, founded the Down Syndrome Association of the Mid-Columbia (DSAMC). After Chris and Zelene's second child, Henry, was born with Down syndrome, the families were inspired to form what came to be known as the DSAMC. Chris and Aaron are long-time best friends, which added to the passion put into this non-profit organization. Their vision was to form an organization to provide information, offer support, and create activities that would enhance the lives of those with Down syndrome and others in the community who interact with them on a daily basis.

The DSAMC helps create new dreams for families with children born with Down syndrome and motivate inspired thinking within the community to realize the potential of children and adults with Down syndrome. The Association works to raise expectations of children with Down syndrome through awareness and education. The DSAMC's message is one of acceptance and inclusion.
The Down Syndrome Association of the Mid Columbia is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization (FD TAX ID # 35-2299801). The DSAMC is affiliated with the National Down Syndrome Society. More information can be found at www.dsamc.org.
